Town Treasurer

Duties of the Position

The Town Treasurer:
  •  is responsible for the custody, deposit, and disbursement of town funds in compliance with detailed statutory standards.
  •  submits books, vouchers and statements to the Selectboard and to the town auditors whenever requested.
  •  
may delegate deposit, investment, recordkeeping or reconciliation functions to other town officials or employees provided such delegation is in writing and includes written procedures acceptable to the Selectboard or Town Administrator.
  •  
invests excess funds in accordance with the Selectboard’s investment policy.
  •  
pays out town money on orders of the select board, with certain exceptions which allow other entities to request funds.

Responsibilites

  •  Manage town funds and uphold their fiduciary duty to the town.
  •  Keep adequate records of all transactions.
  •  Review and authorize accounts payable and payroll.
  •  Engage in sound investment strategies.

Appointing Authority

The Town Treasurer is appointed by the Selectboard according to RSA 669:17-d.

Qualifications

The Town Treasurer should have an accounting, banking or finance background and prior interest in municipal operations.
